Drums. Started in 5th grade, played in all the school bands (marching, concert, dance) right up through high school, then was in the Navy Drum & Bugle Corps during boot camp. Began paid gigs in 8th grade and have never stopped. Studied with some of my my musical heroes for a while at Musicians Institute in Hollyweird back in '82-83. (That was awesome!) All I ever wanted to be (mainly) was a professional drummer. I pulled it off well for a long time but later on, life intervened, and I fell into other things.
I still gig regularly, sometimes 3-4 times a week, but lately just weekend nights. And I teach, as I have off and on throughout my life. I can only dabble at guitar -- nothing for public consumption. I studied piano for a year and loved it; alas, simply ran out of time.
As to Joan Jett, referenced in another thread, she's still got it. Met her on the USS Iwo Jima (LHD-7), under way to NYC in 2009. She flew out to entertain the crew. I was aboard as an officer with US Naval Sea Cadets. Great USO show that day.
Okay, all done rambling. :-)
