Part of the property tax on our home goes to the city. It's a relatively small part, less than a hundred dollars a year. The city gets a nice cut of the sales tax, too. The city charges for individual services like sewer and water, garbage disposal/recycle as well as a fee for our street lights. The city also gets to put a tax on our utility bill.
