Cabbie turns in $187,000 found in back of his cab....

Ok, so the cabbie (or anybody) is *entitled* to a "respectable" reward.

My bad.

I don't know what I was thinking.

Interesting concept, being insulted by gesture of gratitude, and that a grander monetary gesture would be *less* insulting.

As has been mentioned in other threads, some cultures find any tipping insulting. Whether or not that should be the case in the US, I'd like to think returning found property of any nature wouldn't engender a tip for doing the right, honorable thing.

Of course, with honor and integrity so often demanding a price, I can see how it's easy to be jaded.

If you found a $100 dollars and went to the trouble of returning it to its rightful owner and he "rewarded" you by giving you a nickel, how would that make you feel?

I'm not arguing that the finder should expect a large reward, or a reward of any size, for that matter. I'm arguing that if the rightful owner of the money was going to go to the trouble of providing a reward, that act of gratitude should have been commensurate with the magnitude of the finder's act of honesty.
