My dental hygienist did NOT like the WaterPik. She said it was too easy to damage the gums. She DID like the Braun Oral-B irrigator; its' stream is gentler (but still effective).

With WP you just gotta adjust to a proper pressure. As long as you do that, the device won't bork your gums. There are a ton of attachments to deal w/ oral/dental needs, so you gotta tweak the pressure for each attachment... then remember the settings for each one that you use, so you don't bork your gums (if another attachment's setting is higher than the regular flosser attachment). As noted, WP also great for cleaning razors. Stropping helps to de-crud blades, as needed... not sure it makes much of a difference what you use, a clean blade is a happy blade.
