Help Selecting RGB LED Light Strip for Family Room Shelves
#4
I’ve worked a fair amount with single-color (ie white) LED light tapes which are easy enough to solder together, but looking at the RGB products, it looks like they have four conductors and you’d probably do better with the solderless connection products they have now. The one problem I see is finding long enough premade connectors to work between the strips on the several shelves, so you should probably look at a connection kit like this. I think they have instructions on Youtube, and viewing a couple of such videos would give you an idea what you’re in for.

In terms of the light strip itself, I would just get a well-rated one from Amazon (where returns are easy if you’re dissatisfied or run into trouble) that is NON-waterproof. For a project like yours, the “waterproof” ones would be a pain, since they have a thick silicone layer on top of the strip that you’ll need to peel/carve off at every junction you make - for your indoor project, you’d be happier with a bare strip, I think. Someone already mentioned plugging the whole thing into an Alexa-controlled 110 outlet, but I don’t know how you’d be able to change the color with Alexa.
