I've done similar to Markintosh, and second his take. Getting a clearly identifiable domain for myself & SO, we started out with private mail service and quickly moved to a hosting package. We currently run about 7 email addys, which you can quickly create and then trash for one-offs that avoid spam and other specific needs. We've also created a couple of subdomains when needed. Not free, about 40-50 a year after the promo year, but I think it's a necessary utility in the 21st century.
