The confederate flag in the Capitol
#12
Whether or not the pseudo Confederate flags on display were historically accurate wildly misses the point; they still remind you of the Confederacy and that is what symbolism is all about. Why was there an Indian flag there? Is this supposed to make sense, beyond illustrating the mankind will always want attention for whatever reason?

Regarding the confederate flag having been carried through the Capitol building during the insurrection in DC, I have a problem with the significance given that gesture. The press and others have taken it to mean it represents a turning point against our efforts over the last 50 years to bury racism. But as far as I can tell, its appearance at the insurrection was because some single racist halfwit thought it would be a cool thing to do, not as a representation of the insurrection as a whole. Am I wrong here?

As a whole? Of course not. As this thread illustrates, radicalism rarely is unified the farther into the rabbit holes you go. The best-organized things are always some sort of compromise. And there were several U.S. flags flown there, proving yet again many have no clue what it is and what it is not.
