I have always been astounded that Boston, long ranked among the most highly educated American cities on a per capita basis, is also one of the most racist American cities. That just does not compute for me.
It's primarily a 'town & gown" thing. Remove the education/medical establishment, people who move within their own sphere, from the equation and you're left with Pittsburgh or maybe Tulsa.
I grew up about a half mile from where Obama later sojourned in Somerville, you can be sure he wasn't hangin' with the townies during his time there.
