That article is from 2018. I signed up in 2016, and the offer was that you get to keep the $35 plan as long as you stay with the service.
I'm sure it's much like "unlimited data" that is still capped in reality, and they gave themselves an out. But that's what the offer was.
Hmm, I signed up in Dec 2016. I don't recall if they said anything about lifetime... I checked my first few emails from them and I didn't find anything.
I had that promo, 3 months at $35, $105 total for a free Apple TV.
The service was C R A P for the first few months, it would buffer all the time, but they they got their S H I T together and fixed the problems, and now it works really well IMHO.
