What was the shredding capacity of these? One of the common causes of burnout is a combination using it for too long of a duration causing it to overheat. Usually not an issue if it happens once or twice but can definitely cause motor burnout if it happens too many times.
Another issue is buying a shredder that isn't capable enough for your shredding jobs. It can contribute to burnout if it causes too many jams and overheating. It's one of the reasons I spend the bucks for a heavier-duty model instead of personal or lower end models.
Don't forgot to oil the blades, too. It reduces jams by making it easier for the blades to cut paper and push the bits into the bucket and increases the overall longevity.
