I think JP is asking whether they are Universal binary http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universal_binary, as in both PPC and x86 compiled apps. Which I don't know.
And binary here refers to the pre-compiled app as opposed to source code. And those DVDs are definitely not filled with source code. Can you imagine how long an install would take if everything had to be compiled real time?
