Your boot device is probably set incorrectly in the nvram. You can reset everything to the defaults as follows:
after a restart and once in open firmware type: reset-nvram
then type: set-defaults
to restart type: reset-all
(only type what is in italics)
Zapping the pram might fix it as well, but I don't think so. Changing the battery isn't a bad idea either.
