2.5" 7200rpm drives max out at 100GB. If I were going to bother, I'd go up to 160GB, although they are 5400rpm, the denser, perpendicular recording supposedly makes them a little faster than your standard 5400rpm drive.
I've done two hard drive swaps on 15" Alum. G4's and malled the DVD slot a little both times (a little less on the 2nd machine). There's a clasp that you have to unhook blindly behind the slot and it isn't easy.
