iTunes 7 should be able to play the network shared music from the iTunes 6 computer, but iTunes 6 cannot play shared music from the iTunes 7 computer.
I stumbled across what might be a solution for your situation, it's the FireFly media server software from RokuLabs, which is their temporary solution to the problem that their SoundBridge product cannot play iTunes 7 network shared music. It will share an iTunes 7 library in the protocol used by iTunes 6. I'm not sure if it will work with purchased/DRM muisic but it does work from my AAC encoded music that was ripped from my CD collection.
