500GB Seagate drive failed...they replaced it with a 750GB drive
#1
Hi,

This is in reference to this thread from mid-December http://forums.macresource.com/read/1/403...msg-404000

"Thanks for all of the helpful advice. I swung by Fry's yesterday and picked up a 500GB Seagate PATA for $99 + tax."

Well, the drive died last week...just wouldn't be recognized by my Mac or my wife's Dull. Luckily, just the night before, I copied all the media (which was essentially 120GB worth of ripped DVDs, home movies, etc.) to another drive. That was close!

Anyway, I went through Seagate's online return/RMA process and decided to opt for the $20 advance replacement option where you pay $20 and they send you via 2 day shipping the replacement drive first with preprinted return shipping label and return packaging so there's really no effort involved in returning the drive. I got the replacement yesterday and they ended up sending me a 750GB drive instead of a 500GB drive! Seagate Silent Upgrade!

They do say on their return materials that if they don't have my particular drive, they will replace it with an equivalent or better model. I guess I got the better model.
