Bill:
This is a very good question, but there are several mitigating factors.
1. Canada's economy is VERY healthy and they have a severe (educated/skilled) manpower shortage. It's not easy being a world player with only 32M total population!
2. I have money. I'm not a millionaire or anything, but I could live comfortably up there for years. With careful investing, perhaps even a lifetime.
3. My wife is Canadian. This helps, but not as much as some people might think!
4. I am a college-educated white male with a number of skill sets.
5. I will be applying for employability status before we leave, and
6. Taking a trip up there in August to start the job-hunting process.
