"Back at grandma's..." would be the key line that answers your q, h'. I had the same question thinking that 500 miles was a heckuva long way to drive for a Nano return, ha. My guess is she had her iBook or whatever with her at g-ma's crib and after the first return yielded the same result, she did some sleuthing and figured out the issue right then and there thanks to her trusty laptop and heavily utilized grey matter. Smart kid! Likely a left-hander.
