It turned out that the name of the folder was "09.Layout", the style of labeling in a series.
I have since discovered that ".layout" is a suffix used by MainStage, included with Logic. That's why it automatically turned it into a document.
When I put a space between 09. and Layout, I got the folder back.
I had no idea that .layout was used in this way.
