That's a very "delicate" way of phrasing it, and I suspect it also sums it up pretty well. In spite of the fact each partner in a homosexual relationship is of the same gender, I imagine much of the attraction between two is still based to a degree on what are considered to be more typically male or female interests and activities, probably because that's consistent with the division of tasks required to maintain a household.
My sister in law is quite feminine and enjoys cooking, sewing, and "crafty" stuff. as well as nice jewelry and clothing; her partner, on the other hand, is quite the, um, handyman and assumes responsibility for many of the tasks around the house that would more commonly associated with being "man's work." She doesn't look masculine, nor does she have any particularly masculine characteristics, but she wouldn't be caught dead in a dress or skirt now that she's retired and doesn't have to maintain any appearance of femininity, and she never has liked jewelry or anything fussy.
