There was a rumor mentioned by a talking head on one of the news channels this morning that McCain had chosen two other people before her and both of those choices (men) had fallen through at the last minute.
With an announcement due before the Republican Convention, he made a hurried decision and left the background checks for later.
If so... Oops.
