MacPro New Drive Help

Smile Return it and buy a Pioneer Smile

Not to be a wet blanket, but a retail Pioneer is noisy compared to an Apple OEM Pioneer drive. At least that's the case for, say, ripping a DVD*. Where a retail drive will go full speed, an Apple OEM drive is speed-limited for some functions, which keeps the Apple drives quieter.

*for transfer of a legally owned DVD to an iPod or Apple TV, for anyone who was worried.
