Dead airport extreme card in powerbook?

StingMe - I suggested the same thing to my dad. I just got an email from him and he says (regarding the problem): "While we were surfing the net it simply said there was some sort of system error and the computer needed to be restarted."

I wonder if a software update could have hosed things - but he says that there hadn't been any updates immediately before this happened.
