I think there might be a logical fallacy happening here.... The area under the fingernails isn't a germy (sp?) place because it's the underside of our nail. It's because we use our fingers - and nails - so extensively, and material accumulates between the nail and nail bed. If you can't use your nails because of their length, you wouldn't be scraping stuff up and keeping it on your fingers. Right?
