DarwinPorts and my rear end
#1
Anyone have opinions on the best way to install unix-y stuff? I've grown to like DarwinPorts over the past week, but also understand that it puts stuff in the /opt/ directory.

Does that cause problems for other software? For instance, what if PHP is maybe expecting a database to be in /usr, but DarwinPorts has put everything in /opt/?

And what if PHP5 is already installed, but DarwinPorts installs PHP4 as a necessary component of some other program?

Whatcha think?

Edit: That should get more views.
