"who gets to determine what a 'normal' size person should be and how much room they need around their butt?"
Uh, you either fit in the box, or you don't? They decide the size of the box, and you decide if you want to get in it or not? Or if the box is too small, you buy 2 boxes? No paying passenger is ever forced to fly on a plane.
You could drive yourself, take a train, take a bus, take a boat, take another airline that may offer larger seats at a higher price. Lots of options.
The logistics might not be as convenient, but you still have choices.
and as I mentioned in a post in the last 2 days, my tickets to Mexico this year are half of what they were in 2008 and 2007. Hey, beats walking, and hundreds less per ticket. Heck the money saved pays for the rooms for the 2 weeks.
I have travelled extensively with a large person in the past. I am NOT unfamiliar with the issues. HOWEVER, my ex-wife KNEW that decisions like this are just business, and if she REALLY didn't like it, she could lose the weight, or not fly, or buy 2 tickets (she wasn't that big, but you get the idea)
