Any team can strike lightening. You would have a stroke if you could see who the Pirates have had to let go because they simply can't afford to sign them. If they had the payroll of an upper midmarket team, they would have won a WS in the 00's. Everyone talks about how good the Rays are, but they conveniently forget that the Rays sucked for so long their high draft picks finally reached the majors.

Most people think the big market teams like the Yankees, Mets, Red Sox, and Phillies use their money to buy championships. And they do. But the biggest advantage of having the big checkbook is being able to survive mistakes. If the Yankees sign someone to $10M a year for 6 years who turns out to be a bust, they can simply swallow the contract and get what they can for him. 22 other teams will be handicapped by that contract for the duration. Two contracts like that and the team is screwed.

That is all.

I also wholeheartedly agree with this:

Yankees Can and Should Avoid Using Burnett In Postseason

I bet they use him. Wish they wouldn't. I see Vazquez is up tonight. Another disappointment. Nova has been a nice surprise. Hopefully he'll figure out a way to go 5+ innings. Any way around it, they have bullpen problems.

The Yankees have peers. Big market teams that has money to burn. The Dodgers, Cubs etc. It's hard to win in baseball. Now, as a Dodgers fan, I've long disliked the Yankees as a concept since many of their championships were won whipping my team's butt. But since I'm a "baseball" fan, I've always admired the players and management. Jeter is one of my all-time favorite players. Mariano Rivera is the most bad-assed baseball player of the past 20 years. The Rangers' Michael Young says it best:

"\"I respect Mo more than anybody in the game. The guy goes out there, gets three outs and shakes (Jorge) Posada's hand. You appreciate someone who respects the game like he does, respects the people he plays with and against, and obviously his results speak for themselves.\—Michael Young wrote:
