I'm not laughing at you, more so at the situation. Now that I've seen pics, I realize that is totally something that I would have done. Not cutting the holes. The whole "door unintentionally in front of the speaker" thing.

I'd cut the holes so I agree with you. I would find a way to cut them with the various tools I have around. I would put the big hole up top with the tweeter and the little hole below. But the real key is what is the door made out of. If that is solid oak, then I don't think my drill would cut it using a hole saw bit. If that is a light panel, it probably wont be too bad. Plus, as bad as your hole is going to be, it will be covered. I would get myself into further trouble by drilling a pilot hole (say 1/4") through the door now in the place you want it, and then reporting back to us on how easy that was and what the door was like to drill through and how it is constructed.

That's a good idea. Some sound transparent screens.

You need to get the cabinet out of the picture. Use a small computer station and place the speaker, freestanding, to the right of it. What's on the opposite wall, maybe reverse your viewing position or move the cabinet there. Where is the left speaker, do you maintain a stereo image? I think if you want half decent sound, you will need more than baffles in that door.

ETA: Better yet, buy her a laptop.

Just curious, but have you measured the depth of the speaker ? Seems that a 1.5" door might be shallow
for a woofer. If it were me I would just mount a slim-line style speaker vertically on the door frame.

I would not use metal covers. I would cut two rings out of a coffee can the thickness of the door and buy some fairly sheer cloth the same color as the door. Use the coffee can ring to trace the hole to be cut. After you cut the hole, wrap the metal ring with the cloth and stuff it into the door. Use a 1/2" sheet metal screw to hold the metal ring in the door once you get cloth flush.

Does the door slide so that it only covers the left half or right half or are there two doors and you just have them aligned in each picture?

I already gave advice as to how to make the cuts, so I'll just comment on the concept. I think the two round speaker grilles will look very odd and will uglify the door to the point of making it better to have no panel at all. I would find a way to change or move the speakers, perhaps even putting them next to the TV or on or in front of the door frame as suggested by lafinfil.
