RI? Not sure what a "gagger" is though but I used to buy the coffee syrup to mix in milk...

In my opinion (which, on this subject, is always right!) it ain't chili without two things;
Meat and Beans. And personally, I like to add garlic, chopped tomatos, red onion, white onion, chopped bacon, canned cream corn, chili powder, fresh diced jalepenos, and if necessary for body, a bit of corn meal or polenta. I'm not that great of a cook... but I'm good at Chili.

No beans for eating it straight.
But if it's on a burger or dog, it's beans that are mashed up.

Too many moons ago, they were three for a dollar at N.Y.System. A cheap meal at 3:00AM after a nite out here and there with the guys. Howard Johnson's if out with the ladies. After the bars and clubs closed. (usually). Coffee milk was such a staple growing up thet when in Orange County, Ca. , I had to have coffee syrup mailed to me from back home.

Paul, I like (and use) everything you listed except the corn, bacon and/or polenta. Never tried it with polenta but the corn sounds good.
I also add all the juice from any canned items I use plus one full bottle of Bass ale (or any dark beer you like). Because I tend to go on the hotter side (hense the ass-ripping part) a side of sour cream cools the fire. One caveat though, in my book canned chili is *not* chili. It's Mighty Dog...

LOL! On that point, you and I agree.. I'll eat the stuff on a hot dog in a pinch, but it isn't really chili! Corn meal or polenta is good if you accidentally get the chili too watery, and need to thicken it up. Canned corn works OK to cool down chili you get too hot ( a little), and adds nice textury bits of vegetable matter without affecting that wholesome chili taste ![]() Dang... now I'm thinking about fixing a pot of chili over the weekend... Hmm... buddy of mine was saying he had some leftover wild pig in his freezer.. Maybe I could strike a deal with him for some of it. ![]()

No beans for me. I made a big pot of chili over the weekend. Lots of beef (plus a little venison), lots of spices. Yum!!!
