A lot of these seem to be accurate. I was intrigued by the 50% off Alaska Air so I googled around and found this:
Senior Discounts Tell Aunt Betty to quit forwarding emails like "Senior Discounts Revealed!" because a lot of the information in those things is woefully out of date or just plain wrong. One that caught my attention recently claimed Alaska Airlines gives travelers 65 or older a whopping half-off all airfares. Sounds too good to be true because it is: Alaska's website explicitly states they offer no senior discounts whatsoever. So ... YMMV

The OP asked if any of "DM's" seniors had taken advantage of the discounts. DM = DealMac? Did you have a "senior moment?" Maybe you *do* deserve these discounts!
Some may be real, but I have trouble believing that "Food Lion" (a grocery store chain, right?) would give 60% off!

Whoops! Heh, I SAID I turned 55 last year.
Yeah, I *MEANT* Mac Resource Seniors, not Deal Mac. Sheesh! :oldfogey: The UnDoug wrote:

Someone missed this one:
Massage Envy - NYC 20% off all "Happy Endings" (62 +)

Supercuts = $2 discount one day a week, not $8.
I haven't checked, but I have trouble believing 30% off at Big Lots. Otherwise, thanks for the topic. It will make me think more about asking for senior discounts in the future.

IHOP doesn't publicize it vey much, but we've used this for years. Weekdays (3 pm to 6 pm) Seniors have a BOGO. There may be a limit of $8 or something like that, but most of the time they deduct the lowest-priced meal. I believe it's for 55+.
You have to ask for it when you order - at least this has worked for years in the Portland, OR area. I've seen some discussion that you have to order one Senior Menu meal, but we've never had to do that. LyleH

"Ross Stores: 10% off every Tuesday ( 55+)"
Yes. Dammit, yes. About a decade back, I was buying some working clothes at Ross. I paid cash, as I always do; as do a lot of Old People. I wasn't Old People, so I was less than gruntled when asked for my ID; upon inquiring, the girl explained that they had to check ID for a Senior Discount, something that I was just short ten years of qualification. Oh, it gets worse. For my 55th Birthday, I shaved the lot off- I hadn't seen my upper lip since my early twenties, and things rustled in my beard late at night. For my Birthday dinner, I went to a restaurant where I was well known. Our waitress looked at me and laughed and commented that I looked so much younger- I didn't look a day over 65. I didn't get a discount, but I did get a free desert- a Creme Brulee, and my tea was served in a Sippy Cup. If the longevity of my maternal grandmother and my Great Auntie Jo are anything to go by, I've got nearly a _half_ _century_ more of this to go through. By then, even Mortuaries should be offering 10% Senior Discounts. Eustace

Our Kroger stores offer 10% off on the first Wed of the month (a day to be avoided by all non-seniors!). 60 might be the magic age but I don't remember now. Jay C Food Stores (owned by Kroger) gives 5% off every Tuesday.
My wife asked about a senior discount at the local theater and was told 65 was the cutoff. She opined that she was a month away from that and the ticket clerk shouted, "Happy Birthday" and gave her the discount. Then suggested that she just ask for the senior price and it would be granted. After I turned 60 I discovered that Taco Bell gave a "senior drink" which was a free cup at the all you can drink dispenser. Motels all seem to have a discount plan; it appears that it's the same discount with a different name or excuse to give it. The Southwest Air senior price is not necessarily the best price according to their web page. |
