With the pill in one hand, I hold my cat against my chest and stroke her to calm her, then gently put her down on the floor facing front, straddle her, and continue to pet her.
As I stroke her throat, I move the fingers of one hand up and press against the sides of her mouth. I rest the pill on a finger from the other hand.
When she opens her mouth, I jam the pill down her throat with my finger, pushing it down behind her tongue.
When I remove my finger, I gently massage her throat and jaw until it's clear that she swallowed the pill.
I tried your way and Hal's way. The cat is constantly trying to escape and run away. With one hand I have to try to hold her in place. The other hand is supposed to open her mouth. I don't have a hand to handle the pill.

You have to hold her between your knees so both hands are free. Burrito wrap her first. It also protects you from the claws. Good luck.

Yes. That's what straddling is for. To make her feel comfortable (Cats like warm caves.) and to give you that hand to hold the pill.
Legs pen the cat but leave her head free so she doesn't feel trapped.
Left hand strokes the cat and keeps her from walking away, and when she's calm the left hand is used to prop open her mouth by the corners.
Right hand holds the pill and shoves it down her throat when she opens her mouth. (Don't let the pill sit on her tongue. Shove that finger down to the back of her throat with the pill.)
...Wrapping your cat in a towel with just her head sticking out is also an option.

LORD HAVE MERCY JESUS!!!! It felt like I was punishing her. Thanks everybody!
I did the full Tiangou method with the Hal twist and the rgG wraparound. I think she swallowed it! She cried a bit.
I was too busy trying to make sure she liked me.
Now I'll monitor her and try to make up with her.

Awe. She is a cutie.
It is always awful when kitty doesn’t want the pill. It makes you feel so bad when all you want to do is make her better.
We were so lucky that Jack Cat would eat his in a pill pocket.
