While I never thought about it before, I clearly associate this with Ashkenazi Jews, of which there were many in the circles I moved in as a kid and adolescent, and of course, my family was Ashkenazii.. I don’t recall hearing it anywhere else.

As at least one other here has already mentioned, I've heard someone say "I've got to make water" and I have to wonder if this phrasing is related to the original query like it evolved from or was abbreviated in "to make".
I suppose if I'm frank it's almost always been "go make water" ...

Only time I've heard it used was on Big Bang Theory one time when Sheldon said he had to "make peepee".
