in my FaceBook inbox, I've already been getting political propaganda, repeatedly, "The Truth About McCain" YouTube videos, smearing John McCain, with a chain letter instruction to "send this to ten friends, spread the word. What BS. This crap works both ways.

Ok, I'll concede the point about the 100 years remarks. But as Deckeda points out, that's a small bit of a larger issue. There are so many patently false rumors being spread about the Obamas that his campaign is compelled to respond.
Again, where are the equivalent smears against John McCain? Obama is being called a secret radical muslim among other things. That Moveon.org ad you cite is pretty standard and tame political advertising. Where are the smears that McCain is, say, secretly a radical secessionist KKK member? The last time I heard any such crap (fathering a black child, collaborating with the Vietnames, etc.) about McCain was eight years ago and it came from "someone" on the Right who really wanted him to lose to Bush in the NC primary.

It's gamesmanship. How to twist the other's words into a meaningful attack.
For McCain, it basically should be understood that he'd continue a presence to the degree that it would take to provide an ongoing stability to the region which would require a certain troop commitment in the manner and spirit of Korea and Germany.
For Obama, he'd like to reduce our troop presence to the degree necessary to provide a simple protective force to ensure rebuilding Iraq. In his mind, the main reason why there is continuing war in Iraq has more to do with the level of U.S. militarization there which infuriates the Shiites in particular who don't trust our motives.
In the meantime, George W goes tra la la la, I'm a happy little escaped criminal... La la la...

[quote karsen][quote Black Landlord]I did hear Obama's "100 years" quip-- ever since I've been aware of the misquoting, I've paid closer attention to the way that's used, and Obama absolutely is being careful to =not= say that McCain wants 100 years of war, but that he wants to be in Iraq for 100 years.
You must have selective hearing.
[quote Don Kiyoti]Got any more "smears?" This one is pretty weak, and you've misquoted Obama too.
Really? I didn't misquote anyone.
According to the Washington Times, Obama "said it is 'entirely fair' to say on the campaign trail that Mr. McCain would continue the war for 100 years because the Republican has not clearly defined success in Iraq and has given no criteria for troop withdrawal. 'For him to argue, which he has repeatedly, that any suggestion that we withdraw troops is surrendering, that implies that we will be there as long as he thinks it's necessary for us to be there,' Mr. Obama said."
The "non-partisan group" factcheck.org "says Obama's claim that McCain wants 100 years in Iraq is a serious distortion to the point of rank falsehood. Challenged by reporters today, Obama refused to back down." McCain's campaign claims Obama "has been knowingly twisting McCain's words for as much as three months."
Don't like reading? Here it is right from Obama's mouth, don't tell me he didn't say it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WHnVZpA69j0
If that's not enough for you there's more videos of hims saying the "100 years of WAR" all over YouTube.
Here's some more craptastic bullshit from Move On: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=agN54i7CiUg
Have a nice day.
Oy veh, Karsen, you've been duped.
That Obama video you linked to uses clips that do not directly relate to eachother, much like they do when they make a funny Star Trek video that's supposed to show a love affair between Kirk and Spock.
The clip of McCan supposedly "not saying" 100 years is the wrong one.
Here it is:

At about 4:24.
Quite sad that intelligent people like yourself fall for this stuff.

I realize those are pieced together clips, it is YouTube after all. That doesn't change the fact that in the clip Obama said 100 years of war. They didn't take each word and piece it together, did they? I mean, he said it right, and you said he would never do such a thing. Either I was right and you won't admit it, or is NBC in on a conspiracy to bring down Obama by utilizing Star Trek technology to dupe the world because of a higher agenda? It's probably that though right? I mean, Obama is perfect.

Karsen-- why did they edit out the sentence in which McCain says "100 years" in each instance of McCain speaking? Clipped right out of the middle of the sentence.
Disgusting.

Who is they? Star Trek again? Everyone's well aware McCain said 100 years. That's not in question. What McCain never said was 100 years of WAR. It's pretty clear to anyone who listened to McCain with even a shred of fairness that he was talking about 50, 100 years or more of presence in Iraq. Just like Germany, Japan, Korea, etc. If Obama wants to discuss the possible negative effects of a 100 year presence in Iraq that's fine, but he chose to lie about what was said.
Why are you talking about what someone edited out of McCain's speech and once again ignoring that Obama libeled McCain? You just can't admit you're wrong can you?
This thread started with a boo hoo, woe is me comment about those mean old right wingers who said Obama won't recite the pledge, and there's even a link where you can watch Obama say the pledge... hallelujah!! Did McCain say that Obama won't say the pledge? I wasn't even aware that the pledge was a major issue in this election year.
Both sides play dirty every election year, it's not just the right wingers. In fact the stuff coming out of the left wing blogs is downright nasty. Some of the nastiest crap I've ever read, I think it'd make Bush/Cheney blush and they did a hell of a smear campaign on McCain in 2000.
Rather than focus on what some self-important third party like move on or the swift boaters says or does how 'bout we focus on the candidates. I pointed out something false Obama himself has been saying about McCain and it also happens to be a MAJOR issue in the election, not a freaking lapel pin.
If someone else would like to add something Obama has falsely said about McCain, or McCain himself has falsely said about Obama I'd love to hear it. Otherwise please stop crying about lapel pins and the Pledge of Allegiance, you sound like a bunch of school yard pansy asses. "Whaaa, he said I don't say the Pledge of Allegiance!"
