Apparently, Palin received first Passport in 2007

[quote PeterB][quote karsen]She's meant to compliment McCain and help fill in some of his weaknesses. McCain has foreign policy covered. Two of the biggest attacks Obama has on McCain are he's out of touch with working America and he doesn't support equal pay for women. Palin helps deflect those attacks.
It's comments like these that scare me a bit. So someone who is vehemently anti-environment, pro-NRA, pro-life, pro-Creationism being taught in schools, is in touch with working America? Yikers.
She's not even anyone I want representing my gender, thank you very much.

There was a rumor mentioned by a talking head on one of the news channels this morning that McCain had chosen two other people before her and both of those choices (men) had fallen through at the last minute.

With an announcement due before the Republican Convention, he made a hurried decision and left the background checks for later.

If so... Oops.

[Edit: 'Turns out there's more to the rumor: Apparently, he wanted to pick Lieberman, but was faced with a walkout by half the convention if he did.]

My 4 YO daughter got her first passport in 2007, too!

I guess she didn' t make the list because of the age requirement.

They have to pass through a foreign nation when driving to the lower 48.
Blame it on Homeland Security!

If she was a Democrat the rules would change and Alaska itself wouldd be considered far enough away for foriegn policy experience.
Jesus, don't you ever tire of this?
You demean yourself by defending her.

"Traveling on a Passport" does not equate to having Foreign Policy Experience. Any more than Campaigm Experience is actual Political Experience. I don't care what party you are from.

I don't get this whole thread.

The idea being, if you have never traveled outside your own backyard, how good a grasp can you have of other people and places. Making good foreign policy decisions usually requires both.

rgG-

you have made a point that i thoroughly agree with.

to think our current president, with all of his wealth and privilege never ventured to see, experience, understand or appreciate another part of the world.

little wonder bush's "go it alone" policy has created minefields for this country to suffer with for years to come.

palin suffers the same narrow vision.

that is not what is needed in a global economy as we fight a global war on terror while battling global issues such as climate change, pollution, water scarcity, aids, food safety and on and on.

be well

The Palin choice was based on winning an election - NOT on effective management of the Federal government.
