What would happen if you told your boss you hated your job?...

Well, you are very short-sighted in your approach here. Not much relevant information and very shrouded in your approach.

IF I knew all of this as your boss, yeah, you'd be gone in a heartbeat . . .

These are great replies. What a diverse reaction.
I think the best answers so far are from mstudio, MacMagus and Kiva's Drew Carey quote.
Are you hiring? :c)

Response might also depend on how good, talented, dedicated, etc. an employee you are.

More than the minimum. You don't want to be the kind of employee who just does the minimum.

Lester Burnham (after quitting his job): Then I guess I'll have to throw in a sexual harassment charge.
Brad Dupree (Lester's boss): Against who?
Lester Burnham: Against YOU. Can you prove that you didn't offer to save my job if I let you blow me?
Brad Dupree: Man, you are one twisted ****.
Lester Burnham: Nope; I'm just an ordinary guy who has nothing left to lose.

[at the dinner table] Carolyn Burnham: Your father and I were just discussing his day at work. Why don't you tell our daughter about it, honey?

Lester Burnham: Janie, today I quit my job. And then I told my boss to go frak himself, and then I blackmailed him for almost sixty thousand dollars. Pass the asparagus.

You know what, bik, if you want me to wear 37 pieces of flair, like your pretty boy over there, TheCaber, why don't you just make the minimum 37 pieces of flair?

I'm sorry, Lux. I thought I remembered you and Milton telling me you wanted to express yourselves.

I tell my boss that several times a day.
He just laughs.
I've quit quite a few times, too.
I always hire me back.
