2008 Almost Gone - Are You Nervous About '09?
#11
As long as my family is healthy, I'm not gonna sweat the other stuff.

I've imagined what a severe depression might be like and can honestly say that I could make do.

Hell, I could live in a tent and be happy.

I've been very fortunate the past year, been able to pay off a chunk of debt, pass the P.E. exam, and generally feel secure in my work. As for the upcoming year, lotsa tomatoes and potatoes to be grown here in Alaska.

I am cautiously optimistic. I think a lot will depend on Obama's plans for stabilizing the economy. However, it's also going to take some spine on the part of Congress:S, so it's not all up to him. Obama will have to provide the leadership because I'm not aware of any other politicians who have the courage to do anything that might be unpopular. In times of crisis, you need key people to step up to the plate - I think they are out there, but we just haven't heard from them yet.

Things aren't looking good on a broader level, and there's probably about a fifty/fifty shot things could go really pear shaped closer to home. If they do I'll b*tch and moan and feel like crap for a time just like anybody else, but if at the end of the day I've still got two arms and two legs, I'm reasonably healthy, and I've got a roof over my head and enough food to eat, I'm good and can go on from there. If it doesn't kill you, it still sucks, but it'll probably make you stronger.

So it is said with the current state of the economy, jobs in education and healthcare are quite safe.

That shoe is guaranteed to drop at some point.
