They're going to send me a box to send it back in and get a new screen.

I guess Steve is mad at you, after all.

But the question is - will the box they're sending you be damaged in transit before you receive it? If yes, will you have to place a claim for THAT also?
I'm not sure what to do if the replacement foam is damaged in shipment. Eek!

I like the foam cradle that the refurbs ship with better than the packaging the new machines ship with.

If it's anything like the foam that my refurb arrived in, that's hard to picture, unless some UPS guys were playing soccer with that box. This is one thing I do have to give Dell credit for - the foam that mine arrived in cradled it pretty securely. Obviously, others haven't been so lucky. This might be because more recent orders are suffering poorer Quality Control, as the refurb assembly lines have been cranked into overdrive.
Not at all. I just got my second one and it was knocked cattywhumpus - one corner still in the foam; the remaining 3 either suspended in air or on the box bottom. I'm shipping my previous one to a friend in the same box, but I'm adding bubble wrap to fill all the air space.

And as an addendum, since there's no screen to look at, man, does that black case not attract fingerprints?

So there is only one piece of foam under it, nothing on top?

Ah, I see. Unless the box around the foam is form fitting, I can see where it would be easy enough for a side to slip out.

Yeah - the foam is pretty flexible and was quite misshapen by the time it arrived at my house. Computer appears to be fine though. Knock wood.

As well, there is a spacer in there with a note to 'PLEASE REMOVE FOR SHIPPING 10" LAPTOP UNITS', and also a small divider to keep manuals and discs separate. If either were to be dented or compressed during shipping, I could see how the laptop could find a way to shift around.
