South Dakota. More of a documentary.

Anyone remember "The World, the Flesh, and the Devil"?

1959. Harry Belafonte, Inger Stevens, Mel Ferrer.

From IMDB:

To film the striking images of a deserted New York City, the cast and crew had to start filming at dawn in order to capture the city before the early morning rush. This gave them no more than an hour or two per day in which to film the sequence.

I don't offer it as a great movie, or even an outstanding example in this genre (great genre, by the way) but for nostalgic reasons, it's the first of its kind that made a strong impression on me as a kid. Maybe the first post-apocalyptic feature length movie I'd ever seen. Not unlike "Twilight Zone" episodes from this era, informed by Cold War anxiety, but with a racial/social message twist characteristic of that era, too. A classic!

Dark city.
Not abandoned but freaky nonetheless.

Escape From NY, though Logan's Run would be a close second.

Omega Man was the first movie that came to mind.

Same here. That's one of my favorites. The Stand was also pretty good. And, although quite dismal, The Road was fairly entertaining.
