Nope, leave the juice. That is what cooks the mix.

My favorite version of this one dish wonder is cherry pineapple.

20 oz. Can crushed pineapple
21 oz can cherry pie fling
1 box yellow cake mix
12 T cold butter, cut into 24 pieces

Pour pineapple with juice into greased 9x13 pan, top with cherries then cake mix. Press the cake mix Iinto the fruit.
Top with butter slices, bake 55 mins at 350.

No. According to some YouTubes I watched, if you use three cans, you pour one can of liquid out: I only used one can and half a box of cake mix and half a stick of butter. I winged the cinnamon and brown sugar. It came out perfect. It’s hard to mess up. It cooked a little over an hour. Just check on it at around an hour.

My son learned that from his mother years ago, wherever she got the recipe it was called dump cake. Can use a can of apple or cherry pie filling instead, don't need to add sugar.

My sister makes it this way! I've substituted canned blueberries instead.

I’m going looking for low carb or sugar free stuff including cherries and apples. I might have adjust the seasonings some.

Perhaps try defrosted frozen fruits?
