Been trying to give a cat a pill

She is still giving you the stinkeye, but I'm sure she'll forgive you before next mealtime

A pill shooter works wonders. Looks like a syringe, but it it's not. Put the pill in the rubber end and fire away. Gets the pill far enough back in their throat that they have no choice but to swallow. Practice first (firing it that is). Seriously. It's the easiest way to get the job done.

This is the way. Aka “pill popper”. Cheap on Amazon. Vets should just give them out with meds for cats.

Or, all cat meds should be given as under the skin injections. We had a vet subscribe us a pill, but then in the office they gave the cat an injection, and we asked if we can get those instead (so much easier!!!). Nope, vet only they said, argh!!!

But with a pill popper, even our most resistive cat (he has power jaws) can take his meds.

Burrito wrap her first.

That makes sense.
I'm just not clear on the cooking time.

Anytime that induces a state of permanency?

Wow, she looks just like our cat Sugar. Haven’t had to give her a pill yet, but of our 4 cats, she would be the most challenging.

The pill shooter thing does work. As mentioned above, you have to wrap them with your knees to be able to have both hands free. Or you need two people.

One of our cats has been on medication since last fall. He has bacterial hepatitis, and while he’s improved, his numbers still aren’t back to normal. But he is super easy to give pills to. I cuddle him like a baby (which he loves), open his mouth and pop in the pill. It probably helps that he knows he gets treats right after the pill. He actually sits and waits by the counter for me. We had one other cat who was super easy. You could walk up to her, open her mouth, and pop the pill in. But I know that’s not normal.

Congratulations on your persistence and success! Scout is gorgeous even if not happy with you right now. How much blood did you lose in this process? Sir Ivan the Sweet becomes Lord Ivan the Terrible when medications appear, plus he is large and strong and difficult to wrap when I'm on my own. I got one of those pill syringes for next time, should probably find some sort of gauntlets, too.
