There's a great dive bar in Austin called Nasty's (or at least there used to be) that serves frozen Everclear margaritas. It's kind of a tradition not to tell a first-timer what's in them until he's had two or three...

I don't know from everclear, but i remember, while in college, crashing a party down the street from our house with a roomie. We walked in and Dave said,
"Man. it's still early and these people are really fscked up"
I had a drink out of a punch bowl with fruit and little purple specks in it i thought had something to do with grapes.
Dave came up to me later and said "I found out what's in the punch. These guys are chem students and they mixed the punch with organic benzedrine. Those purple things are what's left of a styrofoam cup that fell in."
I was on my third glass by that time and took the news with a certain amount of equanimity. The rest of the evening has gone to the Land of Lost Memories.

Correction: it may have been organic benzine. Like i sid, my memories are a little hazy of that night.

Everclear is useful for extracting essential flavors and oils if you're making your own liqueurs and cordials. You just have to remember to water it down after you're done soaking your hazelnuts or whatever.

I dated a girl right after high school whose father was an alcoholic. He carried a "survival" kit in the glove box of his car, a bottle of Everclear and a bottle of Mad Dog 20/20.

Is it safe to soak your hazelnuts in Everclear? Do girls like them that way? :-)

I might have been willing to try Everclear when I was a younger (read: not so smart) man, but now? No way.

[quote Shakes]Everclear Jello. Nasty but did the job in college.
We tried that once but the gelatin would never set, even after several days in the freezer it was still soupy. Of course they still got eaten.

It is just alcohol, just stronger.
