Why does anyone care what the rest of the world thinks of the US?

It's not that we so much have to have their love and admiration; it's if we don't, we are probably doing something wrong, which was definitely the case the last 8 years.

Don't think that'll ever happen, they saw us turn it into a quagmire and will stay away...it would be the prudent thing for any third party to do. Now, if we manage to somehow improve things, they may decide to help (when it no longer seems a lost cause). And their help we would need, since we could never seal the deal on our own.

This is very weird. Why is it that the right-wingers are the only ones who are trumpeting the expectation that Obama should be the second coming, only to express profound disappointment that he's just a regular guy. Oh wait, I know...the O'Reilly/Limbaugh dittohead instructions have been sent out. Now let's think, what do you call it when you make up a fantasy that is completely absurd so that you can shoot it down?
Let me think.... Oooh, this is so hard.... Um..."straw man"*? Could that be it? *Straw Man
