I recommend watching or listening to the Women's Soccer Finals right now

Well done Japan. One for the underdogs.

I like most of the major sporting games (to varying degrees, though). Baseball will always be the best game based on the mere fact it is not a game with a time limit. I love hockey and there is nothing more exciting than playoff hockey but any game where clock management is part of the strategy weakens the game. At least hockey doesn't determine it's champion via shootout. A shootout can be exciting to an extent but it's a poor way to determine a champion.

My god what an awesome game

All of those missed opportunities early in the match was their undoing.

Kudos to japan for playing the PERFECT game against a superior opponent.

PS - there isn't a sports fan alive in the US that wouldn't have been entertained by this match. they just have to give it a try...

So watching sports in America is like watching films..the higher the score or body-count the better the spectacle!

Hmm.

Is that true for any "sport"?

At least on TV, Id rather watch golf over baseball, soccer or hockey. At least with golf on TV, they always pretty show something "happening" -- putt, chip or drive, somethings always moving... oh, and theres no real "time limit" with golf, unless you count the sun going down...

I think there were more units of happiness produced in Japan by this outcome. It has been an annus horribilis for them.

jdc, I've no desire to watch golf live or on tv. I can appreciate the skill it takes to be consistently good at itas opposed to lucky but it bores the pants off me.

That said, I do like that there is no time limit. Each player starts out knowing they get the opportunity to play the same number of holes. No other player is trying to keep you from getting a chance to take a turn to hit the all (which I suppose in golf would be counter productive as it would lower your opponent's stroke count)!

Certainly one of the reasons I wanted them to win.
