After sleeping on it a night, how do you feel about the new Apple products?

I bought the i7 mini this AM. Will get it the 26th. I'm giving my 2009 256GB SSD mini to our daughter's family. It should last them 3 yrs the way they use a computer.

I'll first add some RAM and when prices come down, a 500GB SSD.

Honestly, I'm glad they finally upgraded the iMac... It's been too long of a wait.

I'm really happy about them adding USB 3 (FINALLY).

However, I'm a little bit disappointed with the 27"...

It's thinner (great). But, I'm more interested in performance. I'm a little skeptical about heat dissipation in that case. Also:

1. Does this include a 5400 rpm drive...? If so, I'm not happy about that.

2. SD card slot should be on the side (not on the back) for easy access.

3. Sorry to see firewire go... But, at least I can buy an adapter for the thunderbolt port.

4. I'll have to buy an external optical drive (no biggie).

5. We have to wait until December to see them in the stores.

That's it for now.

Is that 2.5GHz Mac mini the new headless Mac semi-Pro people have been wanting?

Not that I need or want a new mac, but how would it compare to my 2008 Mac Pro3,1 2.8 Quad w/10gb ram?

I like the idea of a 13" retina MacBook Pro, but the price bump is too steep. Earlier this year I got a refurb i7 MBP and to get a new one with the retina display that has similar power with maxed out RAM it would be well over $2K, not including an optical drive (which I still use to rip CD's into my library). I'll let someone else beta test the new enclosure, see if it overheats, etc. I don't see the SD card reader as adding much value. They should put in a CF slot since that's the card all the high end cameras use.

The iPad mini is pretty tempting, but I'll wait a few months for the retina/A6X version, likely for the same price.

I am a little tempted by the iPad 4, which would be a nice jump up performance-wise from my iPad 2.

If I needed a Mac mini I'd jump on the new one, but I don't.

A little tempted by the new iMac. Mine's an older C2D 24". Again, I like having the optical drive to watch DVD's I get from the library and to rip/burn CD's. Might make more sense to upgrade with a refurb. Form factor is nice but doesn't sell it for me.

After the announcements, I feel that it's time to spend more time looking over what's involved in building a hac-intosh.

the iPad mini is over priced. The iPad 2 is obsolete. The new mini looks like the only thing that might be worthwhile.

for $1800, you get to have a 7200 RPM drive.

"1TB (7200-rpm) hard drive

Configurable to 3TB hard drive, 1TB or 3TB Fusion Drive, or 768GB of flash storage."

BUT... only an i5 processor. sorry. if you want an i7, you must buy the $2000 iMac, then CTO the faster processor - wonder how much THAT adds?

"2.9GHz quad-core Intel Core i5 processor (Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz) with 6MB L3 cache"

this previous gen refurb is a much better machine, IMHO.
for $200 less.

Two Thunderbolt ports and One FireWire 800 port
AMD Radeon HD 6970M with 1GB of GDDR5 memory

Decay-

I would buy that machine over the new version if it had USB 3.

Unfortunately, I do not know of a way to add USB 3 to the 2011 iMac.

I'm now considering a Mac Mini... or, wait (again) for the Mac Pro next year.

Oh, another "product" I find interesting is the Fusion Drive concept of letting the OS copy apps over to the SSD as popularly used. Very well explained in the keynote.

Isn't there an adapter, Tbolt to USB3?

I love the iPad 4 as I bought a refurb 32GB Wifi iPad3 for $469 for my mom. $50 off for the refurb w/Retina display was not enough but $130 off? Yeah, I'll buy that. And I did.

I will also buy a refurb Mini 2.3 Quad when they show up in the Refurb store in a couple of months.
