Is this the Founding Fathers' vision? Armed guards in schools?
#21
We can't even get many parents to put their own children in car seats or make them wear seat belts - why should we protect their children from wackos with guns?

I see it all the time on the road: kids not belted in, people holding infants or toddlers on their laps.

Nobody will really know with certainty the vision of our Founding Fathers. The best we can do is study and interpret.

I'm not in agreement with this writer, but his focus is on the 2nd Amendment and how it should be interpreted. Some of his points are well-made, but I still don't agree with them.

My father taught me that every RIGHT comes with a corresponding RESPONSIBILITY. Even God-given rights, and rights set forth in our country's by-laws.

The question: How do you keep children safe ?

It would really help if your politicians and citizens would stop being pathetic little dickheads and start growing the fuck up.
Nobody needs a gun except to kill dangerous animals in cases where not to would result in personal injury or death.
Almost every other case of ownership is entirely unnecessary.

Easy choice. America made it. Your children and innocents will keep dieing because of it.

...Looking at the rankings of countries by fire-arm related deaths...OK, let rip...

I find it somewhat amusing and instructive that the lefties on here almost always refer to "firearms related" deaths or homicides when comparing statistics of Countries, and not just "deaths", or "homicides" - a bit of cherry-picking of data...
Always happy to amuse and instruct people. I suppose whatever is said and whatever the source there will always be the accusation of cherry picking from those who don't like it. You mention "just homicides" so from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime global study in 2012 I will cherry pick that the US homicide rate is four times the UK homicide rate. You also mention "just deaths" and cherry picking from the UN's most recent study it would appear that despite our appalling National Health Service we seem to live a year or two more.

What other criteria would you like to be used?

Paul

PS I used the word "appalling" as a joke as despite it not being perfect (and what is?) it does seem to be doing a reasonable job. I have always had excellent service from them apart from that one time a few years ago when a doctor did totally the wrong procedure which resulted in me losing over half my blood. Turned out he was on some exchange scheme with a hospital in, I believe, Chicago. That was a failing of our NHS to check the competency of overseas doctors and that unfortunately is something which is only now being addressed. The service after that mistake was wonderful and my recovery was complete.

PPS The above PS is not a slur on the competency of US doctors as I am positive that they are mostly excellent as are all doctors around the world who have gone through the proper medical school system. There are rogues everywhere, we have our share.

Your father was a wise man. I agree whole heartedly with that statement. The selfish presumption of self-entitlement maintained by those gun owners the media sees fit to present is nauseating.

Why don't you just leave America and go back to the UK - as you seem to think we're just a bunch of retards here.

I agree with decay's father.

But perhaps we ought to recognize that the "media" presents us with biased news. And if the tone of the news organization and/or the reporter is that against weapons, then it should be expected that the gun owners they present will be the wackiest of the bunch they can find - for it doesn't help their position to present "normal" or "reasoned" citizens.

Paul has never left the UK, you on the other hand a getting pretty thinned skinned and defensive if you think only Americans are allowed to comment on our epidemic of gun violence.

Defensive? From some smug plonker (who evidently lives on the other side of the "pond") who has little positive to say about our way of life? Absolutely.

If you're an American citizen who contributes to our society then I'm open to whatever your beliefs may be. But if you're not, then piss off and stay in the land of crappy fish and chips.
