Is this the Founding Fathers' vision? Armed guards in schools?

"From some smug plonker (who evidently lives on the other side of the 'pond' smiley who has little positive to say about our way of life?"

I don't think he's complaining about our "way of life." I think he's talking about the right-wing, which is not the same thing.

The phrase "Ugly American" didn't just spontaneously create itself from nothing.

I just love these intellectual arguments on this side of the forum. When faced with details, albeit from that communist regime called the UN, the best defense is insults. Also not quite sure where the "little positive to say about our way of life" comes from, maybe someone has been cherry picking my postings on this forum to bolster that misconception and ignoring all the positive stuff.

Have fun everyone.

Perhaps you missed the quote from my post. Or perhaps you're also Manlove.

But I didn't call you a "plonker."

The "ugly American" of the book title fundamentally refers to the plain-looking engineer Atkins, who lives with the local people, who comes to understand their needs, and who offers genuinely useful assistance with small-scale projects such as the development of a simple bicycle-powered water pump. It is argued in the book that the Communists are successful because they practice tactics similar to those of Atkins.

Just so's ya know.

It has been pointed out to me that our discussion has gotten a bit off the rails with my going off about Manlove being a "plunker." My apologies.

Apologies also to Voodoopenguin who has been caught in the midst of this. When RgrF referred to "Paul" I presumed he knew Manlove personally and that was his real name when I responded.

It was not my intention to place offense towards Voodoopenguin and I offer my apologies.
