I'm getting the 4K itch

I'd be happy to have my Thunderbolt Display desire scratched. So to speak.

In 5 years I bet everything 60"+ (maybe 50"+) is 4K (if not 8K).

I'll wait a few years longer.

And the content will still be poorly converted, digitized SD!

But one or more of these attached to a new Mac Pro would look nice, too...

Didn't they broadcast in 3D? Did you get a 3DTV ?

I would need replacement eyes before it would be a justifiable expense.

Or almost as bad: more of today's crappy, low bandwidth HD from subscription TV services. It's not difficult to imagine live 4K content from the major cable and sat companies that sucks compared to Blu-Ray or Netflix' Super HD service.

Isn't most of the general public is hard pressed to tell the difference between 480p and 1080p from 10 feet away?

I say no.

The range you pick is extreme and I think most people could *easily* see the difference at 10', depending on screen size.

Watching on a 25" screen like the old RCA CRT days, sure, it would be a little tough.

But I see a 40" or so screen at 10' and it's pretty obvious that it's not 480p.

Like ANYTHING, people can make off hand remarks about something that isn't relevant to their lifestyle. Most people who really want 4K will view it under circumstances that will show it off best.

Those that don't care can have a big cup of STFU. LOL!

Sitting ten feet from a 40" TV is like sitting five feet from a 20" iMac.

Do all of youse complaining about your eyesight, sit six feet from your 27" iMacs? It is pretty much identical to sitting too far from a 4k TV.
