Ammonia will also kill them if you try to drown them in it as will some citrus cleaners.

They are after food for their growing colony. The colony grows, their search area grows.
I had some small black ones that were after grease and crumbs around the stove.
Once they find a food source they'll keep coming back.

They'll clean your toaster, oven, cast iron pan and foreman grill for you.

I had some of the large black and red ones find a sugar dispenser that got shoved into the back of a closet from disuse and were emptying it of contents for me a couple years ago.

Some will clean up around the sink for you if you haven't .

Outside there are farmer ants.http://www.mnn.com/earth-matters/animals/photos/7-animals-that-know-how-to-farm/farmer-ants

I encircle the house with ant baits every spring. So far, so good. Get the right bait for the ants you have.

If Leinengren can do it, so can you:

For several kinds of ants, we've had good luck with the kind of bait they take back to the nest, similar to Amdro for fire ants.

For ants that don't take that bait, there are boric acid products you spread where they will walk in it. They will take this back to the nest, ingest it while cleaning one another, and the colony will die slowly.

Basically, ants just keep coming back, so it's worth being prepared to respond to them without getting upset about it. Unless someone in the household cultivates opportunities to get upset.

409 will kill ants and their scent trails.

No invasion, that was just Force Recon.

Ants may come back, they just as likely may not, if you don't have "bait" laying around.

Just keep checking the area, keep on the lookout. It may be impossible to find out how they got in without finding them on the march.

And look around the outside of the house. If you can kill them there, they may never come back.

You will see a lot of ants and freak out. Don't worry, it's temporary. All those ants are going to die and take their families with them. Buh bye.
