If it happens again, hold down the sleep/wake button and the home button for ten seconds and then release them to force it off. Then hold the sleep/wake button for 3 seconds to turn it back on.

thanks, I was curious if there is a forced reset procedure. I didn't know you had to do this for 10 seconds, I tried a few seconds, but nothing.... will keep an eye on it over the next few days and if it happens again, I will try this, thanks.
