Appliance purchase -- Amazon vs Home Depot/Lowes?
#21
I buy quite a few appliances, and so far almost always from Lowes and HD. Once from Best Buy. Experience is mixed, sometimes they just piss me off with incompetence. But mostly its smooth. I buy a lot of stuff from Amazon but somehow I'm skeptical of appliances. Please report back to the forum if you buy from them.

90 day returns on appliances at HD, I think, not totally sure. Lowe's is only 30. Does Amazon delivery unbox the thing and carry it to the kitchen? maybe not a big deal with a dishwasher but a huge deal with a fridge.

Lots of Lowe's coupon codes floating around, mostly 10% but there are some $50 off $250. Its also pretty easy to price match lowes vs. home depot. You walk into whatever store has it for MORE, then they take 10% off the price of the other guy's lower price. This happens at the appliance desk, but usually you can pay at customer service and then use 10% off coupon in addition. Ymmv.

Thanks. Ive used those 10% off coupons before, but they dont apply to other discounts, and the unit is on sale...

The lowest chain price is HD. Lowes isnt that close, so the idea of driving over to see the they price match + 10% to save $35 doesnt really sound like a good use of my time.

I may go with HD after all, I would like to get it delivered on a specific day, which they offer, as opposed to online where it just comes in 2-5 days.

When I ordered an appliance from AJMadison online the delivery company they used called ahead and let me choose a specific date (within reason) for it to be delivered. It doesn't just arrive on your doorstep all of a sudden.

Im trying to decide what the "local" impact really is? HD prob got it from the same place as Amazon, right? Prob came from China on the same boat. Im not visiting the store, so Im not making a worker there "work" for the sale. They are both being delivered, so the delivery guys get paid, be it from one place or the other.

When buying an appliance I wouldn't worry too much about the "BUY LOCAL" rhetoric. There's one "local" non-chain appliance store in my area and I seriously doubt the fat cat that actually owns the appliance store lives in my community anyway. The sales guy working at Home Depot works just as hard as the sales guy at the local store. Same goes for the warehouse and delivery guys.

yeah. The local appliance place is beautiful inside, nothing by $10,000 appliances, prob a quarter mil on the showroom floor.

If Frys has the model, they are supposed to local/internet price match. Make sure you get it priced with delivery/removal.

Same here. If you're dropping a few hundred thousand on a kitchen model, that's where you go. Well, that's where you send your head maintenance guy with the list from your private chef.

ask HD/Lowes or even better a smaller business to price match Amazon, and buy local.
