Actually, your first photo shows a '53. Seven years older than that Lark! They used that same basic body shell all the way through 1964 as the Hawk and GT Hawk, which somehow managed to remain very good-looking. Mainly new roof, hood and trunk panels, and fins of course. Stude's design team did heroic work on a miniscule budget. Developing the Avanti, it's said they designed the whole car with the budget GM would have spent on a door handle.

A friend of mine had a Hawk with the 352 engine and slicks.
He stopped in the middle of the block and said watch this. Squealing tires, burning rubber, smoke filled interior and a black marks on the road that were still there months later when I went back to visit.

When our '56 Studebaker President was destroyed when hit from behind we got a '59 Lark (light blue) and later added a '62 Lark (green with A/C). I learned to drive in those cars. Family of five drove from Illinois to Colorado a couple of times in them. I think there might have been two arrangements of the bags in the trunk.
Rust, age, and lack of a dealer finally moved Dad to Buicks.
